Ransomware Attack on French Fashion Company FCUK

In the French Connection, Gene Hackman plays Paul Carbone, a crime boss who leads an international drug trafficking syndicate. The syndicate, known as the "The french connection attack" is involved in importing heroin from Corsica into Marseille for distribution across the United States. In an effort to break up the syndicate, police raid a series of illegal heroin labs located near Marseille. Among the drugs seized was morphine base, which was used to manufacture heroin. This is when the name came about for the syndicate.

French fashion company FCUK has been a victim of ransomware, with a gang believed to be linked to REvil penetrating the company's back-end servers and making off with a selection of private internal data. The company, which is famous for adopting the cheeky slogan FCUK in its advertising in the early 2000s, confirmed to The Register that it was the target of a cyberattack, though it stressed that front-end servers – including those used to process payments for its online and high street outlets – were not affected.

It is believed that the gang exploited a vulnerability in the company's back-end systems to grab the internal data, which includes passport and identification card scans. Passport and ID details for company executives, including founder Stephen Marks, chief executive Lee Williams, and COO Neil Williams, were among the data stolen, the Register reports.

The news comes just hours after Brazilian medical diagnostics firm Grupo Fleury became the latest company to fall foul of the REvil gang. The attacks highlight the ease with which companies can be breached by one of the world's most prolific ransomware gangs, Digital Shadows analyst Jamie Hart says.
